Escogí para esta ocasión esta fotografía, que fue tomada un día habitual y común, en que mi hermana y yo llegamos de la universidad a casa, y estaban mis abuelos ahí, así que les pedimos tomar una foto juntos.

I chose this photo for today. It was taken on a perfectly ordinary day when my sister and I came home from university and my grandparents were there, so we asked them to take a picture with us.

Aunque en ese tiempo era algo normal para mí verles a diario, ahora que estoy distante, esas fotografías son las que me quedan para acercarme más a esos días. Por eso cuando regreso aprovecho la oportunidad para verles a todos y pasar tiempo en familia.

Back then, seeing them every day was just normal for me. But now that I'm far away, these photos are what keep me close to those days. That's why, whenever I go back, I make the most of every moment with them and with my family.

Mis abuelos siempre han sido para mí esas columnas fuertes en la familia, ese tronco principal del que fuimos haciendo ramificaciones sin separarnos del árbol.

My grandparents have always been the strong pillars of our family, the main trunk from which we grew our branches without ever separating from the tree.

En vez de abuelos, la verdad es que les llamo también mamá y papá, porque me crié en un ámbito muy cercano a ellos. Son súper divertidos, tienen sus propios dicharachos, les gusta gastar bromas muchas veces, creo que ellos mismos han motivado esa unión familiar que logra que cada día especial en el calendario se reúnan todos los núcleos familiares en un mismo sitio para celebrar.

I don't just call them grandparents — I also call them mom and dad, because I was raised very close to them. They're so much fun, they have their own little sayings, and they love playing pranks. I think they're the ones who built that family bond that brings every branch of the family together in one place to celebrate every special occasion.
