Too much of anything is bad
For the biggest while now, I have been struggling with a great problem, Youtube, primarily the overuse of it. It eats away a lot of my free time, drains my motivation and affects my life in a mostly negative way.

A great platform
I, like many people get much of my entertainment and useful information from Youtube, it's quite amazing and allows you to see just what you like and it seems like it can always offer you relevant content. It most often tends to spoon feed you with new content through it's complex algorythms that know more about your preferances, than you yourself.
Which can be good and intuitive, but actually puts you in a box in which you don't discover new things and only see more of the things you are already into.

A great escape
The biggest draw of Youtube is the casuality of it, it seems like it's only a video, it's not a long commitment like going on Netflix and binging whole seasons of of wonderous escapism. However it is exactly that and what's even worse is that instead of getting a continous story that you could hopefully remember, you get many different little stories which will be left in your mind untethered and never to be remembered again. You are pretty much doing nothing from the perspective of your future self, you will not remember a single day you have been binging Youtube videos. This is wasted time that could and should be going toward fulfilling your dreams.

Steemit helps
Steemit has greatly helped distance myself from Youtube, many people here have similar views as me and quite often post interesting and informative videos from Youtube, allowing me to watch them here without sending me on a binge. All of the great content and news coverage also satisfies my need for new information much faster than any random video.
I hope that Steemit will get even better over time, that it would become an online Mecca.
