Two days ago Splinterlands dropped the ball on us with Splinterlands staking multiplier for ranked rewards. The update is actually happening as I am writing this post. I want to cover my thoughts on this.
Basically, the introduction of this SPS staking multiplier is to replace collection power and have people hold their SPS because right now most people will just sell their SPS. In addition that, there hasn't been much demand for SPS.
Something interesting to note is that even with no SPS staked there still be a 1x multiplier earning so you will still be able to earn something. Another important note is now there's no restrictions in advancing leagues as well after this update. I also read from somewhere to maintain the current rewards for the amount of daily focuses we get we need to be at the 10x mark for the league we are in. This means if we have no SPS staked, we will be earning 1/10 of what we would've normally got.
Now let's take a look at the multiplier chart below.
I think these numbers are interesting and crazy how exponential it increases for each multiplier. I do have some concerns on this chart though as it seems to be me that it incentives people to have multiple accounts if these people are focusing on maximizing their ROI which I want to say 90% of Splinterlands players do. Like why would someone go for 10x in Diamond with 179k SPS when they can do two accounts at 8x in Diamond 1 or even 4 accounts at Diamond 1 with 6x reward multiplier. You also have to take note that earning focus/season chests are exponential so this makes it even better to have more accounts.
Renting for staked SPS delegation is a nice addition to go hand in hand with this update. There are some things I don't like about this that they have mentioned in the post.
When a staked SPS holder fills a bid, the specified amount of SPS will automatically be delegated to the player who submitted the bid, but it will not be automatically undelegated after the 7 day rental expires. It will be up to the SPS owner to undelegate their SPS after the rental ends.
I don't like how the SPS won't undelegate after the rental. This is my first issue with this. They said in the post they would be depending on 3rd party players to solve this issue so this makes me wonder what benefit they will get. Will there be a certain percentage of DEC given to them for these rentals like in the normal card rental/buying market.
My second issue is that to undelegate SPS or for renting staked SPS they have a 7 day period. It doesn't make sense to me to rent for only 7 days when a season is 14-15 days. In addition to that, rentals are usually 2 days minimum before getting canceled on so I think it would be better if the SPS rental could match this. I'm someone that rents for brawls to be competitive and I only play for 2 days during the rental and having to rent sps for that extra 5 days would be a waste.
Honestly, this was bound to happen but I don't think anybody expected to only have a 2 day notice sa well as the change happening mid season so this kind of gives a bad experience to those that pushed a higher league already that they don't have the SPS for. Overall, I think this change is good for the community and I would really like to see the results after the implementation to see if it really made any impact.
Thank you for reading and supporting me. Let me know what you think about this staking SPS multiplier!
