St James is a small village on the coast of False Bay, South Africa. In general, here, on the Cape Peninsula, there are enough various famous sights, the coastline stretches for kilometers around, and it seems there is no point in visiting this particular village and looking for something especially interesting. However, this is not quite true.
This tiny village has a small beach, for which we came here. It is not that outstanding, it has everything the same as on many neighboring beaches: rocks and waves, which are certainly beautiful ...
... fragments of shells and a starfish thrown ashore by the surf ...
But the most interesting thing on this beach is the charming bright and colorful houses lined up in a row — these are beach houses, changing cabins. It is for them that it is worth stopping by St James and walking to this beach — it seems to me that everyone will want to bring home a couple of their photos from the trip against the background of these funny bright Victorian-style huts. A perfect example of both functional and visually beautiful buildings.
They are, of course, not unique — for example, on the beach in Muizenberg, a small town nearby, there are also such beach huts. But the beach there is large and there are much more people on it, especially tourists, and much fewer people come here, this is why St James Beach compares favorably with its neighbor. And besides, there is a tidal pool here — you can see it in the photos above and below. There is a flat sandy bottom and it should be very convenient to swim.
There are railway tracks nearby, but during our half-hour stay, not a single train passed, so, I think, they are not often used, and trains do not interfere too much with vacationers. It is worth stopping here at St James on the way to Cape Point. It is worth taking a little time to walk on the rocks, admire and take pictures against the backdrop of colorful houses and swim, it seems to me. And you can also walk a little in St James — there are quite a few pretty houses from the colonial times.
We were not entirely lucky with the weather, which is why the houses do not look as bright in the photographs as they could have been — but even so, you can see that they are very cute, aren't they? :)
