Jaba is a beautiful and attractive flower. The flowers are pink, white, red, yellow - various colors. It can be seen everywhere in Bangladesh. Jaba flowers are usually planted in the yard or on the roof of the house as an ornamental plant. This is an evergreen flowering shrub belonging to the genus Malvaceae. Origin in East Asia. In 1853, scientist Carolus Linnaeus named it Hibiscus rosa-sinensis. The Latin word ‘rosa-sinensis’ means ‘rose of China’. In Bengali the names are Raktajaba, Jaba, Jaba Kusum.
Jabar is propagated by branch pen. This flower blooms almost all the year round. Dark green leaves are in the gaps. The height of the tree is about 8 to 18 feet. The leaves are glossy green and the flowers are bright and have five petals. The flowers are about four inches in diameter and bloom in summer and autumn. Jaba cannot tolerate temperatures below 10 Celsius, so in the region below this temperature, Jaba grows in glass houses.
Jaba is rich in medicinal properties. Used as medicine for various diseases. Good benefits are obtained by applying jabapata to remove eye puffiness. For colds and coughs, the patient is cured by drinking Jaba flower juice mixed with water. For hair growth, it is beneficial to mix the juice of jabapata with oil and apply it on the hair.
