I was sitting on the temporarily fitted toilet in what will be become the downstairs shower-room when I thought I could hear running water. Nine months later, the new mains water supply was finally fitted and paid for by Severn Trent. This included the cost of two four foot deep exploratory holes, one in the shower room, and one at the front of the house, each costing the best part of a thousand pounds. When discovered, the leak was losing 80 litres of water an hour (they told me this was equivalent to 5 full baths an hour), at its height, 200 litres an hour. I was terrified what that amount of water was doing under the house! Eventually it transpired that the problem was when Severn Trent had fitted a new water meter on the boundary: the connection had not been properly tightened and sealed.
