Comoros, also known as the "small island," is an African country located between Madagascar, Mozambique, and Tunisia. In 2022, Comoros made history by qualifying for the first time for the African Cup of Nations (Afcon), which was hosted by Cameroon. The road to the tournament was not simple, as they had to compete against formidable opponents such as Kenya, Togo, and Egypt.Comoros was placed in a group containing four-time African champion Ghana, Morocco, and Gabon during the tournament's group round.Despite losing to Gabon and Morocco and winning their final match against Ghana by three goals to two, Comoros qualified for the knockout stage which made Ghana eliminated from the competition.Comoros should be proud of themselves for making their tournament debut and avoiding the death group. COVID 19 suffers a setback and injury forces all of their goalkeepers to miss the tournament's round of 16 match against host Cameroon. The natural left back "Chaker Alhadur" made a lot of influence at the goal post for Comoros against Cameroon with all the goalkeepers missing, earning praises from a lot of football fans.
He made four good saves that other professional goalkeepers might not have made, and the game grew emotional when he forgot he was now a goalkeeper and put his hands behind his back when expecting a shot.
Cameroon advanced to the quarter finals after winning two goals to one, Karl Ekambi and the hot Vincent Aboubaker scored for Cameroon while Youssouf m'changuma scored a consolation goal for Comoros from a fantastic free kick from 30 yards to the goal post, possibly the best goal of the competition.Comoros midfielder Nadjim Abdou received a red card early in the game, making things much more difficult for his team. The match's hero was a 30-year-old left back from Ligue 2 side Ajaccio who was playing at the goalpost and made four outstanding saves for the tournament's debutants.Following their elimination, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) slammed Comoros with a $5,000 fine for "failure to respect the jersey numbers already registered on the CMS system by the player" because the goalkeeper kit number was not up to standard, jersey number 3 taped over number 16, and another $2,000 for "delay of the match caused by their players by two minutes," totaling a $7,000 fine.I am hoping they file an appeal and the fine is decreased. The event is still going on, and we're at the quarterfinals right now. If you haven't been watching, I recommend that you do so because each of the matches has been enjoyable. Remember the hero, " Chaker Alhadhur!" Thank you for stopping by; your support is greatly appreciated.
