Welcome to the continuation of my Discovering the Allgäu -Series!
A must see for all visitors to the region is the so-called Breitachklamm, an up to 150 m deep gorge, formed by the river Breitach.
It's located at the exit of the Kleinwalsertal and can easily be accessed by car or bus. Around 300'000 visitors are walking the 2.5 km long gorge each year. During main season it can thus become quite a crowded site.
The Klamm was formed during about 10'000 years since the last ice age, a rather short time for a gorge of these dimensions. The soft sedimentary rock got quickly eroded by the river's relentless grinding.

The river gets narrower and wilder the further one progresses into the canyon.
