Our sixth day started at Naran, the morning sunshine falling on the lush green mountains of this beautiful town. What’s interesting about the town was that there were hardly any locals there everyone just migrated at some point and started their respective businesses it was quite odd to see this but you can find diversity there when talking to different people. Our objective for the day was to cross Babusar top a mountain at a height of 13000 feet approximately and spend the night at the base camp of Fairy meadows. The best thing about Naran was its fresh flowing water from the mountains I mean the most refreshing water I have ever tasted and that too for free, you take a bottle fill it up and drink it’s so simple.
While filling up a water bottle.
Okay so as we drove to a higher altitude we finally saw real snow for the first time in our lives, living in a coastal city such as Karachi I have never seen snow before so this was a magical experience. We stopped our car and started climbing a glacier on the mountain threw snowballs at each other and just admired the beauty of this bright white covered mountain. The snow felt so soft in our hands and walking on it wasn’t easy in any way as it was slippery and kind of felt like sand as the snow would simply deteriorate and not let us get a grip.
On our way we stopped at Lulusar Lake located near the top, this was another view point to admire although swimming in it wasn’t allowed we just sat beside it and took a big breath you could almost feel the freshness in the air. It was almost unbelievable while we were there a group of shepherds also came with their mountain goats there was a little boy amongst them, they were making their own journey to cross babusar top on foot. Their fitness and stamina had to be commendable.
We finally reached the top of the mountain this place was known as Babusar top it is quite famous and a lot of families were there to enjoy the surreal view of snowcapped mountains. After taking pictures we decided to move and cross the mountain and travel towards Chalas, on our way back there was a road which was surrounded by 7feet of snow on both the sides. Suddenly cars stopped in their track at that junction, there was a Bus stuck while turning at a steep slope, the problem was if the snow were to collapse we would be buried underneath it and so everyone came to help get the bus out. There were like 40-50 people just trying to lift the bus out of a damaged part of the road we all were helping obviously after about half an hour we finally lifted the bus and it came out. Everyone cheered and were relieved.
We finally arrived at Chalas this was a normal populated town at the bottom of the mountain from where the eighth wonder of the world The Karakoram Highway starts. We had to travel towards Fairy Meadows the next day and finally view the Killer Mountain Nanga Parbat.
