seems to be some assumptions you've made that alter the picture. You see Steemit Inc as the 'owner' of the platform. They are the development firm which brought it into existence, yes. They are also the major blockchain developer at this time although the platform has many more developers building the ecosystem.
The platform is owned collectively by the community with the witnesses forming the governance. It's up to all of us to make it work or not.
I don't really care if the masses come over from Facebook. There are hundreds of small social media sites thriving across the net. We need to grow while remembering ... the titan that FB is was not built in 3 years.
Steady growth and thriving is far more important than whether the masses from FB arrive.
