The morning coolness slowly seeps through the barely open window, bringing with it a faint smell of damp earth and old needles. A hot cup is in my hands. The first sip of strong coffee brings pleasant warmth, which instantly spreads through the body and helps me finally wake up. My gaze is fixed on the landscape beyond the glass, where a picture of peace unfolds. There, behind a low fence, an old cemetery stretches out, immersed in the pre-dawn silence.
Now it does not look gloomy at all, but rather majestic and peaceful. There is not a single living soul around, there is an absolute absence of the hustle and bustle that so often poisons city life. The sun is just beginning its upward movement, slowly creeping out from behind the horizon. Its first rays, at first timid and pale pink, touch the tops of tall thujas and the wings of stone angels.
What fascinates me most is the play of light that is happening right now. The night shadows, which a minute ago seemed thick, deep and monolithic, begin to lose their clear outlines. They become transparent, thin and gradually dissolve in the warm sunlight. The rays penetrate the remnants of the morning fog, turning it into a weightless golden haze. Every cross, every marble slab seems to wake up from a long sleep, turning into soft pastel shades.
I take another sip of coffee, observing this daily transformation. In such moments, a deep understanding of the fluidity of time and the value of the present moment comes. Here, on the border of two worlds, silence seems surprisingly alive and eloquent. It does not scare, but gives a rare opportunity to be alone with your thoughts. Centuries-old trees quietly rustle their leaves from the light breath of the wind, as if lulling this space frozen in eternity.
The sun rises higher, pouring gold into every corner of the cemetery. The shadows finally disappear, giving way to a new day. The coffee in my cup ends, leaving a pleasant bitter aftertaste, and a feeling of harmony and peace remains in my soul.
