This is ancient Troy in Turkey!
Location is in : Tevfikiye, Çanakkale Province, Turkey
This place already has 4000 years of history.
I have studied so much about this in school and now that I get to visit this place, this is so awesome.
This place is significant in that it is the first contact between the civilization of Anatolia and the Medeterranean world as Troy is located right by the harbour.
The famous archaeologist goes back to 1870 by the name Heinrich Schliemann.
The important event that took place was the siege of Troy by Spartan and Achaean warriors from Greece back in the 13th Century.
The Trojan War took place in the 12th century BC.
This was in the Hittite time during the transition period to Hellenic Illion, and later it was known as Troia.
Alexander the Great founded the city and in the 1st Century AD it was known as Alexandria Troas.
You see these Greek artifacts all over the place.
It is almost like an open air museum outside.
