A few days ago came to the Gamepass Like a Dragon: Ishin! Which for those who do not know, is a remake of a game of the Yakuza saga that came out many years ago on the PS3 and that, by things of life, the game never left Japan. In theory that is the reason why this remake was born, to bring the game to other countries, in addition to giving a clear technical improvement. So, taking advantage of the fact that since a few months ago I was enchanted with this saga, I decided to give it a try. It is curious because the story of the game has nothing to do with Yakuza. The main plot is about a historical event that really happened in Japan hundreds of years ago, but adapted with the characters of the Yakuza franchise.
1.jpg
We will be in the role of Sakamoto Ryoma, a swordsman belonging to the region of Tosa. In this region everything works through social classes, the higher your class is, the more power you will have over the rest of the people. Our protagonist does not agree with this, so, with the help of his brother and his father, they will try to change the system.
2.jpg
One night in the middle of a meeting, a masked stranger appears and directly attacks our father, killing him and then escaping without a trace. When the guards arrive, they will find us with our father in our arms, surrounded by a pool of blood, which will make us look guilty and we will be accused of murder. Due to all these events, our protagonist will decide to flee the region in search of this masked stranger. The only clue we will have is that the murderer uses a very unique style with the sword. This clue will lead us to the city of Kyoto, where our adventure will begin.
3.jpg
The game gives us a lot of freedom, allowing us to walk around the city. We can see the dirt streets full of citizens, stores on every corner with which we can trade, restaurants where we can eat and several other things that make a pretty nice atmosphere.
4.png
As for the combat, we will have the classic hack and slash that we have seen in most games of the saga. We will have several fighting styles quite different from each other; We will have the gunfighter style, where we will only use firearms. The swordsman style, where we will go with a two-handed sword. Fighter style, where we will not use any weapon and will be focused on melee combat. And finally the dancing style, where we will have a weapon in one hand and a sword in the other. Each style will be useful for certain situations, for example, the dancing style is usually ideal for taking out large groups of enemies, while the swordsman style is ideal for 1vs1 combat.

A detail that I really like is that the game allows you to do parrys, and although I do not think it is polished at all, if it makes the fights a little more interesting and rewarding, especially in clashes against bosses or important enemies, as they can also parry you.
6.gif
Each fighting style will have a huge skill tree. The skill points will be small colored gems, which we will get by defeating enemies, advancing in the story and completing one or another assignment. Depending on the type of skill, we will be asked for one color or another.
7.png
And speaking of assignments; Throughout the game we will find quite a few side quests, most will not be mandatory and we can ignore them, but it is recommended that we spend a little time on this if we want to improve our stats, especially if we play on high difficulties.
8.png
And something that could not be missing are the mini-games. We will have the classic karaoke, dance bars, and even a mini-game of a brothel, which seems to me the most elaborate of all, it's crazy the amount of events it has, things like drinking competitions with our companion, play rock paper scissors against her betting to take off her clothes and several other things. I'm surprised how they managed to adapt this to the time in which the game takes place, because at that time there were no discos or pool bars, but they managed to create several fun mini-games.

I'm leaving some things out because this is getting too long, but without a doubt, Like a Dragon: Ishin is a very, very good game. It manages to give you that "Yakuza experience" that all titles in the series have, but approached in a different way and with just enough changes to make it feel like what it is, a spin off. If you have gamepass, I think it's a must try, and since it's an alternate history, you don't need to know anything about the series or have played the other games to understand this one.

Hace pocos días llegó al Gamepass Like a Dragon: Ishin!
