#25 - Maid
Nel ciclismo si direbbe "un uomo solo al comando". Margaret Qualley, in Maid, è talmente straordinaria e presente da farci urlare "Una donna sola al comando". Peccato che di potere, in questa serie, ce ne sia pochissimo.
La Qualley è la raffigurazione del crollo del mito americano.
Ella rappresenta il fallimento dell'american dream.
#24 - Physical
Da una donna in difficoltà ad una che riesce ad emergere dalla solitudine dell'essere solo una madre, una moglie, una casalinga e lo farà grazie al mondo dell'aerobica. Affinchè potesse funzionare questo show doveva servirsi di un'attrice di un certo calibro e quell'attrice è stata
Physical è una storia di coraggio ma anche di scoperta e dipendenza. Ritmo sfrenato e leggerissimo intrattenimento che prova ad andare oltre, a spingersi verso confini drammatici.

#23 - The Great
Dalla regina del fitness ad una regina in carne ed ossa. La seconda stagione di The Great non si discosta molto dalla prima, regalandoci momenti che definire cult è riduttivo, una guest star come Gillian Anderson e la solita, insuperabile, Elle Fanning.
Nella Madre Russia si beve Vodka, si inneggia all'urlo di Huzzah, si copula, si trama, si uccide ed il tutto in una deliziosa follia che non ci stancheremo mai di ammirare.

#22 - Scenes from a Marriage
Se fosse una famosa pubblicità di un caffè, diremmo "What Else?" e stavolta sarebbe riferito alla coppia di attori che imperano su questo famoso titolo che a molti dirà tanto, ad altri un po' meno.
#21 - Them
Per gli amanti dell'horror Them potrebbe essere una graditissima sorpresa.
Scava nel solco di Jordan Peele questo drama di Amazon che, con la scusa del genere horror, ci propone una raffica di riflessioni, denunce e considerazioni sullo spaventoso ed ambiguo trattamento riservato agli afroamericani nell'ultimo secolo.
E' un drama veramente rilevante che, probabilmente, non ha raccolto quanto meritasse.
Lo rilancio io con questo post in cui ho recensito la prima stagione.
Bonus Track: The Wheel of Time
Di nuovo Amazon e questa volta fuori classifica.
L'attesa ed un'ottima Rosamund Pike non sono bastate al fantasy che in molti attendevano e che, a causa di una sceneggiatura non perfetta, una CGI non sempre all'altezza ed un cast abbastanza fuori fase, Pike esclusa, non ha fatto breccia nei cuori di praticamente nessuno.
Vi rimando a quelle che allora furono first impressions.

As usual, today I am bringing you inside a new Preview of a post that in a few days or weeks you will see In the Mind of a SerialFiller, my blog entirely focused on the world of TV series and of which, for the past few months, I have decided to give you constantly, in advance of what I will publish, most of the posts you will see on www.serialfiller.org.
It will be a very female-driven episode today.
Extraordinary actresses and women represented on the small screen in mostly original TV series, a sign that in television, today as in the past, one can cheerfully experiment without running the risk of making a hole in the water.
Television productions are increasingly massive and impressive, but there is always room for products that little can do much.
The offer, in short, is more and more varied, and this is also reflected in the serialfiller globe, which today, having arrived at the halfway point, repackages us with shows ranging from intimate to horror, via fantasy and dramedy as if it were the most natural thing in this world.

#25 - Maid
In cycling you would say "one man in charge." Margaret Qualley, in Maid, is so extraordinary and present that it screams "One woman in charge." Too bad there is very little power in this series.
Qualley is a depiction of the collapse of the American myth.
Ella represents the failure of the American dream.
A smart girl, a single mother, a penniless girl, Maid's protagonist ends up becoming, out of necessity, a cleaning lady who, trying to be the master of her own destiny, ends up going through a silent hell made up of men who would like to "buy her," psychological abuse, hunger, cold, and attempts to get back on her feet.

#24 - Physical
From a woman in trouble to one who manages to emerge from the loneliness of being just a mother, a wife, a housewife, and will do so thanks to the world of aerobics. In order for this show to work it had to use an actress of a certain caliber, and that actress was Rose Byrne, literally perfect in playing a figure so dysfunctional but elegantly hanging on by a thread that bound her as much to her family as to her ambition, which exploded by accident and became an addiction.
Physical is a story of courage but also of discovery and addiction. Unbridled rhythm and light entertainment that tries to go further, to push dramatic boundaries.

#23 - The Great
From the queen of fitness to a queen in the flesh. The second season of The Great does not deviate much from the first, giving us moments that to call cult is reductive, a guest star like Gillian Anderson and the usual, unsurpassed Elle Fanning.
In Mother Russia there is Vodka drinking, Huzzah screaming, copulating, plotting, killing and all in a delightful madness that we will never tire of admiring.

#22 - Scenes from a Marriage.
If it were a famous coffee advertisement, we would say "What Else?" and this time it would be referring to the pair of actors who reign over this famous title that will say a lot to many, a little less to others.
Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain are the protagonists of this transposition that in 5 episodes gives us back, in all its magnificent solemnity, a tough, dramatic, very intense series.
Credit to these 2 acting giants?
In part, of course, yes.
Not to be missed.
#21 - Them
For horror lovers Them could be a very welcome surprise.
It digs into the Jordan Peele groove this Amazon drama that, under the guise of the horror genre, offers us a barrage of reflections, denunciations and considerations on the appalling and ambiguous treatment of African Americans in the last century.
It is a truly relevant drama that, arguably, has not garnered as much as it deserved.
I am relaunching it with this post in which I reviewed the first season.
Bonus Track: The Wheel of Time
Amazon again and this time off the charts.
Anticipation and a very good Rosamund Pike were not enough for the fantasy that many had been waiting for and which, due to a less than perfect script, CGI that was not always up to par and a fairly out-of-step cast, Pike excluded, did not make its way into the hearts of practically anyone.
