Come di consueto oggi vi porto dentro una nuova Anteprima di un articolo che fra qualche giorno o settimana vedrete Nella Mente di un SerialFiller, il mio blog interamente incentrato sul mondo delle serie tv e di cui, da qualche mese, ho deciso di regalarvi costantemente, in anticipo su quello che pubblicherò, gran parte dei post che vedrete su www.serialfiller.org.

In cerca di una Rom-Com più "woke"?

Uncoupled è stata da poco rilasciata da Netflix in tutto il mondo.
La prima stagione consta di 8 episodi da circa mezzora.
Protagonista assoluto è Neil Patrick Harris, indimenticato ed indimenticabile Barnie in How Met Your Mother, che qui ritorna a New York, questa volta lontano dal pub che lo ha reso famoso e molto più vicino all'universo del real estate.
Netflix sarà riuscita a regalarci una romantic comedy coi fiocchi o avrà tentato l'ennesima operazione commerciale furbetta sfruttando il volto notissimo di Neil Patrick Harris ed una storia d'amore contemporaneo facile da "vendere" ai propri abbonati?

La visione dei primi episodi di Uncoupled mi ha lasciato addosso una sensazione che, purtroppo, spesso mi capita di provare rispetto ai più recenti prodotti Netflix (mi viene da pensare ad Inventing Anna, ad esempio). Parlo di quel senso di "taglia e cuci" con cui sembra che gli autori abbiano approcciato la stesura del copione dello show. A ben pensarci, più che taglia è cuci l'impressione è che dietro la maggior parte dei prodotti Netflix ci sia una sorta di mastermind a cui rivolgersi per stampare immediatamente l'80% dello script per poi riempire il restante 20% con personaggi, storie, luoghi e battute più strettamente legate al racconto specifico. E' come se passeggiando nella New York di Uncoupled avessi rivisto gli stessi ristoranti, le stesse scale, le stesse vie viste in altri prodotti Netflix. E' come se conoscendo i vari personaggi mi fosse saltato in mente questo o quell'altro personaggio visto recentemente su altri lidi. E' come se, ascoltando le musiche che fanno da sottofondo allo show, mi fosse scattata una molla che mi riportasse dentro altre compilation seriale vissute non troppo tempo fa.
Netflix sta dando sempre più l'impressione di essere divenuta un'industria.
Prodotti sempre più pre-confezionati ed imbastiti ad arte ci vengono proposti ed Uncoupled, purtroppo, mi è sembrato essere uno di questi.

Neil Patrick Harris è Michael, un agente immobiliare newyorchese, dichiaratamente gay e felicemente "engaged" da 17 anni con un altro uomo a cui è legatissimo e con cui immaginerebbe una vita insieme. IL 50esimo compleanno del compagno sarà il giorno in cui le certezze di Michael cadranno, in favore di uno spaesamento esistenziale che partirà dall'inatteso abbandono che il suo compagno di sempre riserverà lui.
Crisi di mezz'età?
Tradimento?
O semplice presa di coscienza che insieme la coppia non funzionava più, nonostante l'apparente alchimia?
Michael dovrà fronteggiare questo dramma, forte di una cerchia di amici prevalentemente gay che lo circonderà nel tentativo di donargli affetto, qualche chiacchierata gossippara ed invogliarlo a vedere nel futuro qualcosa di bello e non una vuota esistenza senza l'amore della sua vita.
Uncoupled è una serie che si interseca smaccatamente nell'universo omosessuale di Manhattan cercando in quella fetta di mercato (mamma mia che termini orribili sono costretto ad utilizzare per dimostrare la tesi per cui Netflix quando produce uno show lo fa guardando ai numeri legati alla popolazione di spettatori che potrebbe beneficiare di quel prodotto) composta dalla comunità LGBTQ+ qui ampiamente raccontata e rappresentata e da quel pubblico che trasversalmente non perderebbe una buona romantic comedy per nulla al mondo.
Se appartenente ad una categoria o l'altra di spettatore allora forse questo show vi garberà (e non è detto che lo faccia). Se siete tra quelli che accendono la tv per spegnere il cervello allora forse sarete anche voi propensi ad accettare questo prodotto senza infamia e senza lode che Netflix propone.

Looking for a more "woke" Rom-Com?

Uncoupled was recently released by Netflix worldwide.
The first season consists of eight half-hour episodes.
The absolute protagonist is Neil Patrick Harris, the unforgettable and unforgettable Barnie in How Met Your Mother, who here returns to New York, this time away from the pub that made him famous and much closer to the real estate universe.
Will Netflix have succeeded in giving us a top-notch romantic comedy or will it have attempted yet another sly commercial operation by exploiting Neil Patrick Harris' very well-known face and an easy contemporary romance to "sell" to its subscribers?

Watching the first few episodes of Uncoupled left me with a feeling that, unfortunately, I often experience with respect to more recent Netflix products (Inventing Anna, for example, comes to mind). I'm talking about that sense of "cut-and-dry" with which the writers seem to have approached the writing of the show's script. Come to think of it, more than cut and sew the impression is that behind most Netflix products there is some sort of mastermind to turn to in order to immediately print 80 percent of the script and then fill the remaining 20 percent with characters, stories, places, and jokes more closely related to the specific story. It is as if strolling through the New York City of Uncoupled I saw again the same restaurants, the same stairways, the same streets seen in other Netflix products. It's as if getting to know the various characters made this or that character seen recently on other shores pop into my mind. It is as if listening to the music that plays in the background of the show triggered a spring that brought me back into other serial compilations experienced not too long ago.
Netflix is increasingly giving the impression that it has become an industry.
More and more pre-packaged and artfully baked products are being offered to us and Uncoupled, unfortunately, seemed to me to be one of them.

Neil Patrick Harris is Michael, a New York real estate agent, openly gay and happily "engaged" for 17 years with another man to whom he is very close and with whom he would imagine a life together. His partner's 50th birthday will be the day when Michael's certainties fall away, in favor of an existential bewilderment that will start with the unexpected abandonment that his lifelong partner will reserve for him.
Midlife crisis?
Betrayal?
Or simple realization that together the couple no longer worked, despite their apparent chemistry?
Michael will have to cope with this drama, bolstered by a circle of mostly gay friends who will surround him in an attempt to give him affection, some gossipy talk and entice him to see something beautiful in the future and not an empty existence without the love of his life.
Uncoupled is a series that intersects unabashedly with Manhattan's homosexual universe by seeking out that slice of the market (mamma mia what horrible terms I am forced to use to prove the point that Netflix when it produces a show does so by looking at the numbers related to the population of viewers who might benefit from that product) composed of the LGBTQ+ community widely told and represented here and that audience that across the board would not miss a good romantic comedy for anything in the world.
If you belong to one category or the other of viewer then perhaps this show will appeal to you (and it doesn't have to). If you are among those who turn on the TV to turn off your brain then perhaps you will also be inclined to accept this unmitigated product that Netflix offers.
