At 1,748m at the top of the Ben Lomond Track we met a friendly kea, the world' only alpine parrot. He was very cute, and extremely curious. Unfortunately their curiosity has helped contribute to their current endangered state, as they frequently get into hiker's backpacks and steal their food. This kea actually unzipped a few of our bags, and unfortunately managed to fly off with a plastic bag of crackers.
