Collection Highlights - South East Refining Inc Round
As I continue with the vintage round theme, I have one from a mint that wasn't around very long. The southeast refining mint was based out of Panama City Florida and was only open for about 2 years. In that brief time it made a handful of different kinds of bars and rounds only two rounds were produced by the company that are known both featuring eagles. I think I might have to dig through my bars because I may have the bar to go along with this as a matching set. If I don't then I have something that is close to the southeast refining mint.
This round has some attributes I really like, while the particular artwork isn't my favorite, I am a huge fan of large clean lettering and a clearly designated mint. There is unfortunately no year, but it does give you the city it was minted which adds a little more flair and some of the other rounds.

Reverse
If you've been paying attention to most of my other posts, these vintage rounds tend to have a lot of very patriotic themes and eagles are certainly the top of the list. This is not my favorite depiction of an eagle in flight, but it is a decent representation. It is fine against a field of the rising Sun and it's rays with some clouds mixed in.

I actually think I prefer the reverse of this coin. I love the fact that the mint is probably displayed on the upper lettering while its location is struck on the bottom. It's not often that you get to have the city and state around this meant it in also identify the coin. There's little fanfare other than they are probably claiming point 999 fine silver. Since we all know what we're stacking, sometimes it's nice to just fill up the rest of the rounds field with what we're all after.
I really hope I can dig through my collection and find a Southeast refining bar. If I do I'll have to make a note and tag back to this post in a day or two if I'm able to find it. If not I'll count myself lucky to have this one. For a mint that was open less than two full calendar years running from March of 1980 to December of 1982 it's unlikely I'll find another surviving round in my random LCS stops. Clearly if I do I shall snatch it up and add it to my vintage collection
