My 2nd Round from American Argent Mint

After my prior post and researching the mint, I felt like I had seen that Shield round before and thought I might have one in the stack. I decided to dig through and see if I can find one.

This is my second round from this small mint that was only open for a couple of years. This is the most common of the rounds they produced, and the one that you'll find the most examples of. This is The Shield round that is a world trade silver unit with a very official Shield and the words in God we trust. It looks pretty similar to me to a lot of the older Shields used in say like a 2 cent cover coin or something along that lines.

Blow is all the information I could find on the mint, there is very little online about it but Agroundworld.com comes through again.

American Argent Mint
Little is known about the history of the company. They began circa 1982 and according to IRS filings, ceased to exist around 1984. They were based out of Provo, Utah. During their short lifespan, American Argent only produced one type of 1 Oz bar and one type of 1 Oz round. The only known round produced was a silver trade unit on the reverse. One version has a shield on the obverse and another variety has a stylized flying eagle.

If you missed my prior post, this is the one where I shared the unknown round from them, it has the same reverse design while the front of the coin looks like the Iowa Hawkeye symbol.

Taking a look at the front, I am actually quite fond of this design. On a side note I continue to struggle to take photos of silver and not have them come out yellow, not sure why my camera does this but I really struggle.

If you look at the design of this round, it is strikingly similar to a 2 cent copper piece, something from around like 1865. It has the same shield design with horizontal stripes on the top and columns of three vertical lines going down. It has the same in God we trust on a banner above with leaves and foliage all around the shield. The only thing different is the addition of three stars, in the removal of the arrows. I guess it's not identical but it certainly has a very strong resemblance.

Reverse

Same design as the prior post, but I still like it. This reverse has very little damage to it and is in much better condition. It has seen substantially less action and stacking. It's still focuses on the scale with what looks like a stack of precious metals on the left and a bundle of wheat on the right. Not sure if there's any symbols within the scale that I should be seen, it just looks like an ornate scale. I'm definitely going to keep my eyes open for any more of these rounds, I'm hoping to get out to the LCS this weekend.

Two rounds from a small, short lived mint.

I think it's pretty cool to have two rounds from this mint that was only open for 2 to 3 years. Both of them different designs. I will definitely keep my eyes open for any of their bars, and I will pick up a second copy of these if I can find one and add it into my stack.
