What do you do when you grow up poor, uneducated, and unsure of yourself? Well, you fall flat on your face in every way possible of course! They say if you don't learn a skill then you basically learn to steal. Steal from society, yourself, and everything in between. You kill any chance of ever achieving those super star dreams you've always had.
This is my story. Sad but true.
From selling drugs, robbing, doing time in the federal pen, you name it. I always wanted to be someone else though, but due to the road my feet had already touched, and a stubborn attitude, I was determined to see it through. Telling me to stop doing crime was like telling a lawyer to stop practicing law. It was all I knew. I had invested half of my life in it.
Fast forward to today.
Over time doing time around weirdos, killers, and real ass mothafuckers, has taught me alot. Suffice it to say, I don't take life as a game anymore, neither do I practice in any sort of criminal activity. I am just struggling to survive. We had a saying in prison: "It's hard on the yard, but it's fair." Wheww, and that was something to say! I want -- still want to be that super star the kid me always wanted to be. It's hard out here too...Fair...I don't know about that. But trying? Hell yeah.
I've struggled the last few years to teach myself a skill. I no longer want to steal from myself, you, or anyone for that matter.
I am still a dreamer.
I have been learning -- On My Own-- how to be a web developer/software developer. And guess what? I love it. Recently, I enrolled in Kaplan University for my Associates Degree, in software development. I start on the 31st. Wish me, my wife, and 3 young children luck. We might be struggling to survive, but survive weIMG_20170901_082133.jpg will.
