The 2018 Audi A8 will be the first production car to have Level 3 Autonomy and have Lidar.
This means Audi A8 drivers can leave their hands off the wheel while the vehicle drives itself. In case of issues the vehicle will alert the driver to take over.
This is in stark contrast to Tesla's vehicles which are Level 2. Tesla vehicles requires that the driver pay attention and keep their hands on the steering wheel.
