It has been a long time since I posted here but even though through the last 3 months, life has been hard, school has been nearing fatal levels and my determination to do anything productive plummeted like a meteor.
Yet while everything online for me looked like a total graveyard, there was one patch of flowers... Anime remained.
The new anime season has come with a number of beautiful shows, a few sequels and an amount of newcomers that'll make any anime fan giddy with Joy.
Yet today I'm not here to talk about any of them, I'm here to talk about a show that made waves last year but I watched rather late to have my own personal view and not the views of the general populace.
Frieren, with the band of adventurers Himmel, Heiter and Eisen set out on a journey to kill the demon king and bring peace to their nation. The long journey made her find friends but to her dismay, she outlives them. This realization makes Frieren realize just how fleeting human life is when compared to hers.
So she embarks on a journey across the continent to better understand humanity, connect with new friends and companions and honor her late friends memories.
It seemed just like yesterday when the awards came out and Freiren won anime of the Year. A few fans weren't happy about that and the noise was loud😂. A year later, the sequel was released and the noise became even louder.
It was only till a few months later that I made up my mind to download the first and second season, and press play.
This show is beautiful.
That's just it in a nutshell. It's the type of story that even if you came in with a hater or pessimistic mindset, it would sway your mind to join them. They got possibly everything right with this one.
The animation is beautiful. This is one thing nobody can deny; swift movements, clear graphics and colors and the impact frames—few as they were— were beautiful to watch. The action scenes are sprinkled between the slice of adventure scenes but when they do come, they hit.
I guess the main win about this anime is the wholesome story behind it.
Frieren is an elf with a life expectancy way too long for humans to comprehend, not for herself to understand.
So when her friend, Himmel died it was shocking; to her death at 80 was unexpected and unforeseen. She didn't understand it.
Now she wants to understand. She wants to fully understand human emotions and lifestyles, thus she travels and tries to not take things too slowly.
It's a simple story that has enough freedom for anything to be added and it'll still go with the flow.
The characters shown are another special thing for the show.
Frieren by herself is lovable with the different designs based on her moods, then there's Fern and then Stark who's playful dialogue dynamic/chemistry carry the show😂😂
Then the funny characters they meet along the way like Sein and Old Man Voll who leave a long lasting impression in the story.
It is a wholesome show in the full entirety of it, both Season 1 and 2.
Did it truly deserve Anime of the Year?
That, I can't say. But I do know this, Freiren: Beyond Journey's End is a show that truly gives you the good feeling anime should give✨
A true 10 out of 10 show🔥
