One week to go, and with an album as good as this you should know that these last batch of songs are as dope and as fun and as moving as can be.
Last week I was talking about how I've somewhat gotten tired of reviewing the album consistently and chronologically, and although that is true, I'm very excited for this week's songs because they are just so good!!
This song is a banger.
If I had to explain it in a single term, that's what I'll call it: "A Banger."
Mason jar is a calming yet high energy, very chill and very funny song talking about wild parties, drugs and being so intoxicated that you can barely do anything...
The way it is referenced cleverly in the song with the line that says their producer is so high that he forgets how to kake beats and starts drumming on a mason jar.
I for one can't relate as I haven't gotten that high before—not for want of trying—but because my tolerance levels for both alcohol and cannabis are naturally high.
Still, I do understand and appreciate the buzz of getting tipsy and functionally stoned, hence I'm always the grown-up with my wasted friends or colleagues at any events, so this video as funny and as unreal as it is is how I imagine the feeling of being high is.
This song is so good that it's chilling.
The whole point is how silence usually follows a burst of violence, like the calm before the storm.
Like most of Ren's great songs, it's a story with verses that paints a very vivid scene.
A dark cinematic narrative about two characters whose paths collide on a silent calm Brighton night.
A local who has had his share of alcohol and drugs with an American tourist who went drinking alone.
The key part of this song is the aggressive rap dialogue that showcased or explained what was happening line by line.
It's a very brilliant show of linguistic and musical skill from Ren and Chris and for this masterpiece, they deserve their awards.
We have a other heartbreaking story telling song, this time it's just about one character, Jeremiah who places his absolute innocent faith in his doctor.
This song is one that moved me to tears because of how relatable it was; Jeremiah's absolute faith in the doctor, the Doctor's guilt slipping out knowing Jeremiah's faith and his inability to do something about it and the corporates greed of not caring about Jeremiah or the Doctor's plight and simply going wherever the money flows from.
As someone who has spent a lot of time in the hospital during my earlier years, then also knowing a whole lot of medical professionals and how they care but are somehow unable to help their colleagues, it was a heartbreaking, gut-wenching yet still a very beautiful song to listen to.
