I was speaking with a friend earlier this week, and we got talking about friends and adulthood. A Yoruba adage states that 20 children cannot play for twenty years. With time, we find ourselves apart from our friends and loved ones due to several reasons, including life generally. Sometimes we remember them, sometimes we don't.

We come to a place where we realize that distance doesn't necessarily mean we burn bridges. We graduate in our relationships and come to a level where we know that we keep ourselves in our hearts, and in dire times, we'll be there for one another. There are times when we might be lonely, but we know that we're not alone. We're united in our hearts, and together, despite the distance, we'll brave milestones.

I listened to this song for the first time two weeks ago and came across it again earlier this week. The lyrics of the song typically depict the meaning of the theme this week. The song states "You're not alone; we're family", which is true. You have some relationships that turn out to be as strong as biological. No matter what happens, you'll always have that bond. I flex that fact constantly in the face of my siblings and tell them that no matter how obnoxious or old I get, I'll always be their little sister. It's a beautiful thing, and it's worth replicating with the people we love.

Se lo repito constantemente a mis hermanos y les digo que, por muy odiosa o vieja que me haga, siempre seré su hermana pequeña. Es algo hermoso, y merece la pena repetirlo con las personas que queremos.
