I can imagine that such places were built on the rocky places to make sure that approach is only from one side, so that no invader could enter without been seen. The buildings due to the sienna colour look like sandstone. Many buildings in the past were made of sandstone. I like the idea of adding green colour this way the walls of monastery is separated from rocks.
