Max thanks the 3 men for the crackers and apologizes profusely about breaking down their door before heading back to house 6 where the woman with the 4 children lived. On the way there, Max contemplates what would be the ethical thing to do. He wishes he had a screwdriver so that he could take the door off house 6 and see if it would fit on house 7 to replace the door he had just destroyed. He also thinks about all those genetically-modified children growing up and having children of their own... if that is even possible. Many women who had the gene therapy developed problems with their reproductive organs. Max tries to rationalize his plan to throw a Molotov Cocktail into the house and burn everyone in it. The people are in rags and obviously not having an easy life. We put down our domestic animals when they are suffering, so why should we allow humans to suffer? His mind is now made up and Max uses the axe to smash open the door. The door splintered easily with the first blow and Max could see the fear in the eyes of everyone in the house as they all huddled together in a corner.
