When it comes to the small mana battles in Modern Champion, one of my favorite archons to play is Razi Clanktrap archon aka summoner. This summoner is only four mana and enables ranged attacks from the first position which pairs perfectly with a few small mana cards that are available in the Death splinter.
It also comes with a Painforge ability which adds one power when damaged by Poisoned or Burning or hit by an ally for the units that can be synergetic with Gnome bloodline which includes the all bloodline units. And as usual I am going to share a battle that demonstrates the use of this archon/summoner.
The strategy for using Razi Clanktrap summoner is to make sure that you make the most of the Gnome bloodline and the Painforge ability. To fully take advantage of the Painforge ability we need one of the allied units to deal damage to all of our allied units in a single round. For a small mana battle where only eighteen mana is available the perfect candidate for that unit is:
Water Diviner
Here we are using his negative ability of Electrified which deals one damage to all allied units at the beginning of round 2 and each following round. Water Diviner also happens to be from a Gnome bloodline so that helps as well. And since this is a negative ability monster it comes with great basic specs. For only tow mana you get three magic attack, one shield, six health and opportunity and stun abilities. That is an awesome package for only two mana!
To take advantage of the Painforge I also summoned three other Gnome bloodline units: Lucky Longshot, Nimbledook Explorer, and Daigendark Surveyour.
Notice the placement of the Lucky Longshot. Lucky Longshot is in between the other two gnomes because it weapons trains these two cards to have magic and ranged damage. Daigendark Surveyour also comes with awesome speed of five and nine health as well as great abilities of slow, magic reflect and stun. Nimbledook Explorer serves great as a secondary tank as it has four shield, six health as well as great abilities of protect which adds two armor to all allied units, armored strike which gains a melee attack that deals damage equal to remaining armor as well as Heal ability.
To complement this core team I have also played a great tiny mana tank Halfling Refugee which has great basic specs for one mana. It comes with eight health, five melee damage, the speed of three as well as Healing and a negative ability of Weary, but being a main tank this unit is not likely to survive for long enough for this negative ability to have any impact on the battle. This is basically a big meat shield for just one mana.
And last but not least since we have an Outsider ruleset in effect we can bring in a two mana monster that helps our team that is loaded with melee and ranged attackers take down some enemy shields. So we bring in a two mana Chaos Legion monster Weirding Warrior. This monster has two ranged damage himself, but more importantly it comes with the Rust ability which removes two shield from all monsters on the opponents team. It also has armor shatter ability as well as Amplify.
In this Champion Two battle we have a pretty good team from our opponent Kn0xville, let's see how it does against our Razi Clanktrap team.
In the first round we lost our tank, but were able to take out their tank and the monster behind it. We did have a few misses from the Nimbledook Explorer, but overall the team did well and we are well positioned for the round two.
And in the second round as you can see we had a total beatdown which resulted in us taking down their entire team without loosing a single monster on our side!
Just look at the image above and see how deadly our major attackers have become!
Here we scored a quick and very convincing victory, hopefully this battle shows you something new and you can use this strategy in your future battles!
