My wife always tells me that I am 100% confident about stuff that I have no clue about. And that is often true. But I am sure that confidence is exactly what attracts her to me.

And as far as finances go, I am sure that when you have confidence and belief you can do better financially than those with better skills. Though like you said cultural differences account for some of it as well.
