Well, modern medicine could do wonders to keep people alive, and at some point Ukraine could quickly disintegrate and if Russia absorbs Ukraine they gain the old Soviet industrial/technological/scientific base of the Soviet Union plus millions of people and a perfect launchpad to regain the former Soviet republics of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania...
