Today I would like to share a Modern Champion One battle where I was able to beat the number one player in Modern. Technically I defeated @housewifeftw but in reality I have defeated the best player in Splinterlands
@rukawa.red.
If you look at the Modern Champion Leaderboard you will see that the spots One, Two and Three are occupied by the same Splinterlands Scholar: Rukawa.Red. You can also see that I am at number 48 on the Modern Champion Leaderboard, so I do get to meet the professional Splinterlands players quite often. Most of the time I loose, because the decks and skill level of the scholars are significantly better.
In fact if you look at the modern leaderboard you will see that there are no non-scholars in the top thirteen on the leaderboard. What does it tell you? Well basically that those who invested the most into the Splinterlands cards do not play the game themselves anymore and instead hire the professional Splinterlands players. Is that good for the game? I don't know...
In fact in the top 50 there are only 15 non-scholars including me. Doesn't seem like a very healthy situation for the game. But that aside, let's take a look at the battle where I am taking on the player with 2000+ points higher rating.
The strategy for this battle revolves around using the summoner Bella Ratajowlski and the lineup that gets the most out of bloodline synergy. Every single monster on my team is either from the Ulund bloodline or has a Shapeshifter ability where it benefits from the bloodline synergy.
The most important monster on my team after the archon (summoner) is Moribund Arrowbait. This monster has two very important abilities. Every time this monster is defeated the Bloodline Tribute ability triggers which boosts all monsters of the same bloodline or having the Shapeshifter ability by one health, speed, shield and power.
It is also important to note that I have placed Calamity in the last position so that it can benefit the most when it is the last remaining card on the battle field and her Last Stand ability triggers.
One important reason for using Bella as an archon in this battle is because she provides all units with the blast shield and since we have an Explosive ruleset in effect that is crucial.
Please see the link to the battle above
As you can see my opponent brought in Eternal Tofu as a summoner and a line up of the fully maxed out monsters as would be expected from the battle at this level. Lets see how this battle plays out.
In the first round we lost our Arrowbait but that is OK as it did it's job boosting the rest of the team. Let's see how the second round is going to play out.
In the second round we lost another two of our cards, but we were able to defeat the really formidable tank on our opponent's team.
Rounds three and four were an exchange of heavy blows and we start round five at a distinct disadvantage with two of our monsters to four of the Housewifeftw.
Round six and we are down to just the Calamity against the four remaining cards on our opponent team.
After a few more long rounds we were able to wear down our opponent and this situation is starting to look good for us.
And finally in round fourteen we have defeated the best player in Splinterlands!
In Splinterlands you can come up against the best player in the game that has every single card at his disposal and still win. That is the fun of this game.
