With ten more days still left in the season I have advanced to Champion One in Modern yesterday. It seems like I am making to the Modern Champion One earlier and earlier in the season. Not sure if that is the sign that level of competition in Modern is getting softer or if it is a result of my skills in Modern improving. I would like to thing that it is the later of course, but I don't really have real data on that, so in this post I am going to look at the best cards that helped me get into the Modern Champion one this season.
But first a look at the rewards I got for advancing to Modern Champion One. If you look at the image below you will see that I got a lot of chest including six Ultimate Reward Chests and fifteen Major Reward Chests!
I always use legendary and gold foil potions when I open my chests, so let's see how exciting my rewards are going to be for this...
Well, as you can see I got one Epic card from the lowest level chest and one epic card from the major reward chest, but Ultimate reward chest were as usual very disappointing, total trash... That is why I don't gamble on those and just buy Legendary Draws or energy and lower level chests...
I got more battle data since my last post on best value cards for champion and here are my top summoners:
I am looking only at Modern Ranked battles as I feel that battling against humans produces different results that battling bots in Champion Survival. As you can see my most used summoner is Bella Ratajowlski and while it is most used it is only third best win rate summoner for me. The top summoner in terms of win rate is actually Cryptic, you just cannot spam it as people have some really effective counters to the Cryptic play...
Third best summoner is surprisingly Nidhoggr beating Lorkus just by a tiny bit and at 33 battles for Nidhoggr vs 34 battles for Lorkus. And the last one in the top five is now Eternal Tofu. I guess Tofu is no longer as strong as he used to be... And I used it a lot less than other summoners in the top five with only eighteen battles...
Table above is the full list of my summoner usage but beyond the Sheng Xiao the other summoners are used very rarely. I feel like Razi Clanktrap is a great summoner, but the win rate of 46.7 % doesn't seem to support that, I will keep a watch on it.
If we look at all cards you will see that my top ten used cards are still coming mostly from neutral and water splinter. Halfling Refugee really proves her VIP status by showing up in 51 battles, must be because it is a very small mana neutral monster and can be played in virtually in every battle. Win rate of around 55% is not bad either.
Kelan Gaines definitely stands out with his win rate of 65.3% and is my second most used card. Definitely a must have card for the Modern Champion. Venka is a valuable card and used very frequently but a win rate is only 47.7% perhaps I am overusing it a bit... In the fourth place we have Commander Slade with the highest win rate of all the cards in the top ten at 69%! Jicarilla the Rime and Cryptic summoner are the other two high win rate cards in the top ten. Surprisingly Calamity is only at 50% win rate.
Looking at the next twenty cards on my list I see that Daigendark Surveyor was used 33 times and achieved a 72% win rate which is the second best win rate in top 30 cards. The best win rate in the top thirty cards actually belongs to the Ironcoil Bullwark at 76% based on 25 battles. And the third best was Zyrx the Emberglace with a 70% win rate best on 20 battles.
The next 20 cards have a lot less battles dropping all the way down to just 7 battles and the spread in win rate has widened. Clearly my Magmaforged, Silverleafe Mage plays are not working with a win rate in the twenty percent range...
I am currently ranked at 36th position on the Modern Champion Leaderboard and at number 9 if you don't count Splinterlands scholars or professional players:
Clearly I am doing pretty good, but I wonder what cards would it take to get the kind of win rate that the top scholars get in the top ten...
It is clear that the cards in the top 30 are absolutely essential to getting into Champion One. I will keep accumulating the data and adjusting my card usage based on this information and will share my progress here.
