After 3 weeks od breakdowns, tows and repairs we are finally on the move. We are not completely fixed but at least we can move a little bit which is a massive relief.
I can now resume my walkabouts at new locations we moor at and today I got to scratch the itch of my new bridge fetish.
We've moored in an area where there used to be many g=ravel pits (hence the name of this bridge) but they are now all filled with water and a huge bird sanctuary that I think I may have to do a post on over the next days.
As I took a wander down the towpath this bridge caught my eye with its metal construction and the reflections it cast over the still waters of the canal.
Can you imagine the activity that must have past over this bridge back in it's industrial heyday and now it's disused, a relic of yesteryear spanning the canal for no reason ( except to give me an excellent photo opportunity).
It now sits amongst a myriad of narure walkways and water filled gravel pits now a huge bird sanctuary for a multitude of avian life.
But for me it still has character and personality and stands out proud of it's industrial heritage as without the gravel pits there would be no bird sanctuary today. It played its part in the whole story.
And for me it's a stunning piece of engineering from days gone by.....
