Whole-heartedness

Luke 9: 51-62

DISCUSSION:
Jesus dealt with relationships between Christians yesterday. Today's passage deals with our relationship with loved unbelievers. Although the Jews and the Samaritans were related, each despised the other with a passion. This will explain the action of the Samaritans and the counter reaction of James and John. We will face opposition and rejection in our walk with the Lord. Jesus had not left any doubt as to how we should deal with such situations (See vs. 55-56,compare Luke 9:5;Matthew 5:38-48).
The summary of the law demands wholehearted love for God (Deuteronomy 6:5). The same demand is placed upon us as we seek to follow and serve the Lord. He cannot take second place in our lives. Nothing must be allowed to stand between us and our prompt response to the Master's call. Family considerations (vs. 59-60), lack of good salary or job security (vs. 57-58,61), lack of experience or any other 'good' reason must not. And we must be ready to serve in whatever area the Lord may decide to assign us. Are you in any way hesitating to answer the Master's call to service?
So what:
Have you considered the cost of being a disciple of Christ? Are you determined to pay the price?
Prayer:
Pray for grace to do this.
