DISCUSSION:

Jesus first sent out the twelve (9:1-5). Now, they are seventy-two. Notice the similarities in Jesus' instructions to both teams. Why does He send them in twos this time? Jesus did not hide any information from these men. There were no deceptions about either the size of the work or the dangers they would face. One would have expected Jesus to advertise them to arm themselves with weapons, food and cash. Not so. Their only armour is faith in the Lord of the harvest -to face the opponents who may try to harm or even kill them (the wolves, v. 4), and to receive all they need (shelter, food, v. 7).

Jesus is still recruiting men and women into His harvest field. Like the disciples, sometimes our gospel too will be received with gladness, but not all the time. We need not despair. Our task is to work faithfully and leave the result to God, the Lord of the harvest. What does Jesus' statement in v. 16 mean to you? See 2 Corinthians 5:18-20.

Notice the advantage Chorazin and Bethsaida had over Tyre and Sidon (vs. 13-15). They blew it and so received our Lord's condemnation -a warning to us never to fail to respond to God's grace.
