DISCUSSION TOPIC:
Power For Worldwide Witness

BIBLE READING:
Acts 1: 1-14

Qs. 3, 4. See Questions HERE.

DISCUSSION:

Luke gives the summary of the ministry of Jesus as set out in his Gospel that he sent earlier to Theophilus (v. 1).The climax of that account was the resurrection and appearance of Jesus to his disciples and speaking to them for forty days. But before his final ascension (v. 9), notice the command and promise he gave his disciples in vs. 4,5&8. Vs. 12-14 show how the apostles interpreted this command. What was their preoccupation while they were waiting?

Read vs. 6-8 again. What was the concern that filled the heart of the disciples? What was Jesus response to their question and what can we learn from it?

Jesus redirected the disciples' thought to their immediate responsibility. He stated that the purpose for the power that they will receive is not for building earthly kingdoms, but for witnessing for him and building the Kingdom of God all over the world. Are we any different from the apostles today? Why do we seek the power of God or the 'anointing' today? (See Philippians 1:27, John 6:63).

What next?

What are you doing with the anointing of God in your life - witnessing for Christ or building personal kingdom?

Prayer:

For the race that I must run, and the works that I must do for the kingdom, Lord empower me with the strength and wisdom I need.
