DISCUSSION TOPIC:
"Lord, Teach Us To Pray"
BIBLE READING:
Luke 11: 1-4
Qs. 2, 6. See Questions HERE.
DISCUSSION:
The disciples asked Jesus to teach them to pray after seeing His example (v. 1, compare: 3:21; 6:12; 5:6; Mark 1 :35). What lesson can we learn from this about modelling a life of prayer for those around (1 Cor. 11:1)?
Read vs. 2-4 again and take note of the essential components of prayer as taught by our Lord Jesus Christ. Meaningful and effective prayer is based on sonship relationship. We are to approach God with a sense of intimate Father -son relationship (v. 2a). True prayer also involves responsibilities. Prayer is not just about us but about honouring God's name and doing His will (v. 2b). Prayer is not about having man's will done in heaven but having God's will done on earth. Prayer is asking God to use us for the accomplishment of His purpose in our world. Imagine what Africa will look like if all believers honour God and do His will in character and conduct.
What is the significance of asking God daily for the supply of our needs (v. 3)?
Forgiveness is also an essential component of effective prayer (v. 4a; Matt. 6:13). Why do we need the prayer in v. 4b? (See 1 Cor. 10:13).
So what?
Think of how to improve your prayer life so you can be a model for others around you.
Prayer:
Pray for grace to forgive those who wronged you and for strength not to yield to temptation.
