The regulations in this passage have to do with natural discharges from sexual organs that will render a person ceremonially unclean under the law. Note that these regulations do not condemn sexual organs or sexual activities as unclean in themselves, but rather emphasise the need for proper hygiene to prevent the spread of sexually transmitted infections (v. 17). As the saying goes, cleanliness is next to godliness.
God created sex for pleasure and procreation, and he made the rule that it must be only within the boundary of marriage of a man and a woman. Anything contrary will lead to defilement. Thus, these regulations are not against sex in marriage (Hebrews 13:4) and not against God's commandment that we should procreate (Genesis 1:27-28).
Considering vs. 19, 21-22&24, what benefit is in these regulations for women in particular?
Read v. 31 again, what is the purpose of all these regulations and how do all these apply to Christians today (2 Cor. 6:14; 7:1; 1 Peter 1:15-16)? Can you think of things that may not be sinful in themselves, but can hinder our fellowship with one another and with God?
Are you still struggling with sexual sins? Ask God for grace to overcome.
Lord Jesus, please deliver me from the power of sexual sins that seek to control my life.
