Recently I enjoyed a visit to my sister's house in Montana. Just for fun, I took pictures of several wildflowers that grow in their woods. She knew the names for some, but not all of them.
This one is called larkspur. It was breezy, so this photo is a bit blurry.
Orange hawkweed is considered to be a noxious weed, or invasive species. But it sure is pretty!
My sister doesn't know the name of this one. Looking in my Field Guide to Rocky Mountain Wildflowers just now, I wonder if it might be bedstraw. It has a very sweet odor, which is not mentioned in the book.
Good old daisies are among my favorite wildflowers.
I hadn't been in Montana in June for a long time, so hadn't seen the honeysuckle blooming in the woods. It has been spreading from tree to tree, and is very bright and cheery.
My sister calls this horsemint, but isn't positive that's the correct name for it. Searching in the field guide has not turned up anything that looks quite like this.
Lastly, we have this tall, beautiful, purple flower, which she calls wild phlox, but I'm thinking it might be an invasive species called Dame's Rocket. I'm hoping @dullhawk will stop by to confirm or correct this as well as the above-mentioned guesswork.
