I got my driver's license at age 15, but didn't own a car until I was almost 24. I occasionally borrowed my parents' car, or got rides with other students who had cars when I was in high school and college. But at 24 I was starting my first public school teaching job in a very small town in the middle of Montana, and a car was a must. I like driving, but it has always made me sleepy if I have to go on a long trip. No idea why, but it does. So I need lots of breaks and sometimes a nap on longer trips.
