I love hollyhocks! I used to have a row of them against the house, but the deer really like them, so I had to put up deer fence. When I got tired of dealing with the deer fence, I gave away the hollyhocks and everything else the deer liked to eat. This summer I noticed two volunteer hollyhocks coming up where I used to have them. It has been several years since I dug them up, and I sure don't understand why volunteers are showing up now. It's an amusing mystery.
