I meant to take a photo of our grove of western larch trees a week ago, but I got busy doing other things and forgot all about it. Friday the wind blew like crazy and began to rip the needles right off the trees, just a few days after they reached their peak color. Saturday morning I took a photo right away, but it was cloudy and beginning to snow.
It snowed for an hour and a half, mostly very large flakes, and we ended up with an inch of fresh snow. It seems too soon for that, but, realistically, late October is about the time we usually get our first snowfall. (This year we did get a VERY early 6.25" on Sept. 28, and then another 4" on October 9.) Fortunately, Saturday's snow didn't amount to much, and the sky cleared off quickly, resulting in the opportunity for a much brighter photo of those trees against the blue sky.
Below is the photo I took just before it began to snow. What a difference the sunlight makes!
