Global Warming seems to be everywhere these days. I recently had a conversation with a relative where she was saying that all the weather related events that are occurring are from Global Warming. I commonly hear on social media or on the news, when a forest fires, floods, extreme cold, typhoons, hurricanes and even earthquakes happen that it is all related to Global Warming. Global Warming just seems to be an excuse for unexplainable. This last few years does seem to have record weather events globally, not sure why.
Being an outdoor enthusiast, I was always in the National Forests of California. Every free chance I had I would be in the National forests and I became very familiar with the roads and trails. I remember when Bill Clinton was President, he singed into law an act to protect forest land. Not sure what the law really stated but what I saw was 50% of forest roads closed. In these areas I frequented Bulldozers came in and pushed large boulders and trees over existing roads and trails preventing access to much of the forest. By doing this fire prevention crews could no longer reach areas and I watched as dead trees piled up on forest floors. Many people I knew who also spent a lot of time in the forest agreed with me that in time the forests will have so much fuel on the ground forest fires will be hard to control. Well we jump forward to the last 5 years in California and we see forest fires burning out of control. Sometimes people believe they are doing something good but without being knowledgeable about what they want to fix, they can create far worse problems.
My relative is one of those people who is really into social media and is not into the outdoors at all. My relative drives a large gas powered SUV and blames cars for the Global Warming. That seems a little hypocritical but to each their own. So it got me to thinking is all the Global Warming issues you hear about politically motivated or is there something to Global Warming.
I was in elementary school in the 1970’s and remember days they called brown days. Living in the bay area of California Brown days were days that the smog was so heavy it made the skies brown. During these days it was harder to breathe. On Brown days kids were not allowed to go outside while they were in school. I remember the teachers would place rolled towels at the bottom of the doors. Since then vehicle manufacturers have made a drastic improvement in smog. Since the improvements we have not had a brown day.
Currently the main stream media and most politicians want you to believe the earth is getting hotter because of vehicle pollution. I don’t think that cars are the main cause of the problem. I do think it can be naturally occurring and or caused by an over population of people.
I don’t want to sway people in any direction as I think people should make their own educated guess as to what Global Warming is and what causes it. I will briefly discuss two possibilities besides that ones put on main stream news.
First this one doesn’t take much explaining. The Earth goes through cycles of cold and hot. The levels of the ocean rises during the hot cycles and lowers during colder cycles of the earth. Theses cycles can take hundreds or thousands of years to complete. Proof that the earth was hotter is commonly found on mountain tops where sea creature skeletons are found. I know some people say volcanic activity caused the mountains to rise and therefore is the reason the skeletons are on top. I agree but many times these mountains are found surrounded by land which would mean the land around the mountains were one time covered by ocean, meaning the ocean was at a higher level.
The second theory I have is a little more complex. I have loved the outdoors since I have been a kid. I love hiking, offroad vehicles, hunting, and camping. Being a hunter I must understand the animals in which I am hunting in order to be successful. One of the things that used to be taught to hunters and I will try to simplify, was the following:
I you take a piece of land that is capable of holding 10 deer. That piece of land is capable of having enough food, shelter, and water to support 10 deer. So now lets say four babies are born and the population rises to 14 deer. Due to the land only being able to sustain 10 deer that means 4 will die. If the population does not return back quick enough to the 10 deer limit, then more then 4 deer are most likely going to die because some of the water, food, and shelter that the deer require will be used up by deer that will not make it through the year. Unfortunately, young animals or babies are the first to die. The population of deer requires some of those babies live to an older age otherwise the deer population is in trouble. This was an example I was taught but is just part of the balancing act mother nature has always done. This is what conservation and hunting are based on.
So if we take the example above and say that the earth is only capable of holding so many people, because the earth has limits of food, shelter, water, and I am going to add air (oxyugen) to this one. Now to my point about Global Warming. One of the things I love about being outdoors in a rural area is that the air is always fresher and cleaner then in the cities and more densely populated areas. One of the reason of this is there is much more plant life, which is responsible for cleaning our air and converting carbon dioxide to oxygen. So if there are only so many plants in the world that help clean our air, there would be a maximum number of people the earth could hold.
Because of this last example I wonder if the greed of people with the constant expansion of populations and construction of cities is the cause of Global Warming. We continue to cut down forests depleting the plant life that is responsible for cleaning our air. Could the balance of life and nature be out of balance because of human greed.
Hopefully I did not influence you to think a certain way but instead I hope I gave you something to think about. I hope you go out an come up with your own reason why Global Warming is occurring if it is occurring at all.
