This past Friday, I headed out backpacking with some friends and my camera about an hour's drive north from where I live in Truckee, California. I thought we were starting by going to Gold Lake but plans weren't set in stone and we ended up not seeing Gold Lake, however we started nearby and headed toward Long Lake. We got a fairly late start so we were focused on finding a camping spot as quickly as possible. The sunset colors happened while we were still hiking, so unfortunately I shot this photo handheld and not with a tripod and filters. It happened to be the only sunset/sunrise during the trip that had great colors. I wish I had more time to find an interesting foreground and compose the shot better, but sometimes you have to work with what you got.

Shot on a Canon 5DS R and a 24-105mm lens, with the lens set at 105mm. This is my go-to lens for backpacking when I only want the weight of one lens. Shot handheld with an ISO of 500. The shutter speed was 1/200, nice and fast for a handheld shot. This all led to a wide aperture of f4 in order to let in a lot of light. A good amount of adjustments were made to the RAW image in Photoshop's Camera RAW feature. The shadow areas were lightened up quite a bit and the color was balanced.
