You're right. When I'm making content I try to hold to the same standard that would be in more competitive space like Youtube. There is seriously like a general step down on quality of Steemit articles/videos compared to other platforms. We need good content on the platform to attract new users as well. Who wants to switch to a social media website with low quality posts?
