What goes through your mind when you see the diamond ring on a women's finger? Do you think "WOW now that is a ROCK!" or "poor dear, not much money there" . Let's be honest with ourselves here, does the size of the ring matter?
Do we women show off our ring when we get engaged because it's a sign of the love we have with our future spouse or are we showing off the size, potential wallet he has? Is it even fair to ask these questions?
Is it a society thing? If you are in the rich and famous sector so you NEED a rock to fit in? If you don't get one that is $$$$ then you feel like maybe you are marrying beneath you?
If you are in the middle class society and you receive a reasonably decent size rock are you slightly embarrest? Maybe you are flaunting your affluence?
And here is the big question why do we care?
When I got engaged - (over 14 years ago) I received a ring with no real diamond in it. It was a beautiful ring, but I felt that it needed to be a real diamond. My late grandmother had left me in her will a diamond and I proceeded to use it as my engagement ring. Now it's not a huge rock, but it's really nice, and in my circles quite big. I love my ring, but when I got it and my friends saw it, I felt a little uncomfortable. "Wow, never seen a diamond that big before!" was a pretty common reaction. Personally, I was uncomfortable with that reaction.
I would wear my real diamond on my one finger and my fake diamond on the other finger. Both had so much meaning for me. My husband, really didn't care, in fact he doesn't see the point on spending so much money on a diamond in the first place! But, as mine was a gift, he just paid for the setting and really and truly didn't worry about it.
So what do you think? Should we care? Is it a status symbol? A symbol of love? Are you guilty of judging when you look at a wedding ring on a lady's finger? Would love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!
