Hi all, I'm brand spanking new to Steemit and am finding my way around! So I'm sure I'll have lots of questions that my fellow newbies out there will also have. I don't use Photoshop and I'm assuming that there must be quite a few of you out there who also don't use Photoshop or the free version of Gimp and have no clue how to go about getting your profile picture or your header picture up on Steemit for free.
Well its really not all as difficult as you may think. You can do it in a few easy steps using the free tools of Canva and Pixlr. Both amazing tools.
Let me walk you through this.
Using Pixlr.com - its really simple but if you need more help just go to Youtube and look up how to use Pixlr. There are loads of videos.
Go to www.pixlr.com and scroll down to the editor
Open and then click on open image from computer
Select the profile picture that you want and it will upload into Pixlr. Now what you want is a transparent background so on the left click on the wand tool.
By selecting the wand tool and clicking on the background where you want it to be transparent, it will automatically highlight the background and turn it into a transparant background. Now this can get a little tricky, sometimes it will highlight too much and include some of your picture as well. If you look on the bar you will see that it is set to a default tolerance of 21, just play around with that number making it smaller say 10. Then you just click a few times on the background to get it all nice and transparent.
Once you have it as you want it, on the right hand side you will see that your picture is locked double click on the lock and then save your picture as a png.
Now go to canva.com.
Sign up for a free account.
Click on creat a design, and then click on custom dimentions
You want to put in 400px by 400 px
Upload your picture that you downloaded from Pixlr
Leave the background white or change it to any color you like.
Download your image as a png file.
Now go to the site imgur.com
- Sign up its free.
- Upload your image.
- Open your image in a new tab and look for the url. It must end with.png
- Copy that url and paste it into your Steemit profile settings where it says profile url.
- Save and refresh your page.
Congratualation! You are done!
I really hope this helps all of you out there who don't know what to do or how to do this.
