Down to the water’s edge we went

The surface like a mirror

My fingertip, barely a touch

Raised water to my skin

As circles spread I stayed to watch

My hands now cradling my chin   .

And you were silent

Staring forth

As I have known you all along

Your breathing heavy

Rhythmic

And in the silence like a song .

I could not see you there with me

You sat behind me quite a way

But I could feel you absently

Gazing to where the ripples

Were but memory.
