Fue la primera colombiana en presentarse por primera vez en el Madison Square Garden de Nueva York y en el Teatro Teresa Carreño en Caracas. Carlos Andrés Pérez, presidente en ese entonces de Venezuela, se contaba entre sus fans, pero, debido a un comentario que le hiciera la artista acerca de un problema limítrofe colombo - venezolano en una presentación personal a la que había acudido el mandatario, este la vetó dando la orden de que sus canciones no se escucharan más por la radio ni la tv venezolanas, así como no podía ingresar al país en las giras artísticas de costumbre.
Esta canción "La Sombra" tiene una letra sencilla pero de gran contenido emotivo y su melodía cuenta con la singularidad de comenzar en modo menor para, repentinamente, cambiar a modo mayor dando con este giro melódica un brillo especial a la melodía
