Fighting for a piece of bread
what is thrown
grabbed by many hands
trying to take the whole
a few succeed in snatching it
others look on
and some others nod in disapproval
the one who threw
smirking with glee
the satisfaction that he is THE ONE above all
life and rat race
would anyone pause to think
the sparring minds slaves to money
they couldn't help themselves
even though they suffered insults
The modern era where technology has grown at a fast pace made way for people to own fancy gadgets and live a more luxurious life, away from the discomforts of the natural life their grandfathers were used to. They would do anything to get money and could not even imagine a life without luxuries.
The problem is that the pandemic threw all this out of balance. The pattern of modern living. The youth and the middle-aged are now confused as to what to do. There are a lot of use cases in my extended family too.
Some of the young are battling to get a job while some have thought of holding on to their jobs at any cost. Even paying high rent for a house in the city. Result - stress.
Why doesn't anyone think of going back to the roots and start thinking of agriculture and adopting a natural way of life?
It would be easy to purchase a plot of land and start to farm because land prices are still cheap considering the fact that water is still aplenty.

Have you read the book 'Hatchet? and seen the movie - The cast away?
If you have not, please do.
The hatchet is about a thirteen-year-old boy who survives a plane crash and is stranded in a wild spot. He survives the ordeal and even makes it bearable by figuring out how to light a fire and he is rescued eventually but the narrative is excellent and we learn to appreciate what we have.
The movie - Cast away is about a FedEx worker who lives alone on an island after a crash and is rescued and he learns that life is not all about the rat race or work. He returns to civilization.
Both the book and the movie are a harsh reminder that life is not always about money.
There are many cast away stories told over time through the medium of movies, the recent one being Life of Pi but I felt that the two I mentioned above are more relevant to the poem I wrote.
