Hey everybody on the Hive Learners Community, it's been a while since I've done a contest post since I have been busy though I'm still posting on the community as part of the Newbies Initiative program which I have learned a lot about Hive and Blogging. Thankfully, I was able to free up some time and be able to participate for a contest and I will be talking about a childhood lie that my parents have told me when I was young which I believe most of us have been fooled at some point on our childhood and that was about Santa Claus
Christmas is a joyous occasion which was celebrated all over the world which was celebrated on the 25th of December and depending on where you live, you can feel the festive atmosphere months before the occasion. As from where I live, you can start to feel it as early as September as we call it the "Ber" month. The event was for celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ which accompanied with beautiful decorations together with Christmas lights and Christmas trees and you can also hear lots of joyous Christmas song everywhere. But on this occasion, there was another entity that was popular, mostly for kids and he was called Santa Claus. My parents has described him as fat old man with white hair and beard (not body or old shaming here)and wears a red coat with white collar, carrying bag full of gifts for "nice" children. He rode a sleigh that was being pulled by flying reindeers and goes to your home to bring your gifts. Wherever Christmas was coming, my parents have told me to place socks on the window so Santa knows that you're waiting for your gift and when you're asleep, he would sneak on the house to bring the gift which he will place on the Christmas tree. As a child, I never questioned the logic behind this, "Why put a sock on the window for all he knows it could be someone drying their socks?" or "How was he able to sneak in our home despite his size and age and wasn't that trespassing?". All I can think of was if I was good enough of a boy to receive a gift and what gift should I receive and that also goes for my younger sister.
Memes such as this started to pup- up in the Philippines as soon as September Starts.
I'm not exactly sure if it was 8 or 9 when I realized that Santa Claus was not real but it was around that time and I discovered it because during Christmas night, I woke up from sleep because I feel thirsty so I came to the kitchen to drink and I come to pass my parent placing the gifts on the Christmas tree but since I was half- asleep, did not really pay much attention to it but when I wake up the next morning to see what gift I got, I realized that it was the same gift that my parent were holding the night before and realize that they were the one giving the gifts all along. However, my curiosity on what's inside the gift overwhelms the realization I have and did not disclose the fact that I have seen through my parents lie. Now that I think of it, It could have been the right choice because if I told my parents what I learned, it could have ruined their effort and also spoil my sister's Christmas. It won't hurt for my sister to be under this lie for a little longer and enjoy her childhood.
Overall, the lie that my parents have told me did not bring any bad effects to me growing up as I was able to enjoy my childhood and realized the efforts that they do just to make me and my sister happy. Instead, I should be thankful to them for giving us gifts and the delicious food that they prepare during Christmas and for how lively our home is during the occasion. If there is one thing that I could learn for the lie that my parents make, it is that not all lies are make to deceive a person and take opportunity of them, there are also some lies that are made to make people happy. I am not a religious person but if the time comes that I have a child of my own, I would not mind to tell them the same lie just so they can enjoy their childhood but will leave enough clues for them to figure out the truth as they grow up.
And that was all for me. Thank you for reading my post!
