Gone are the days when BlackBerry was a craze and everyone used BlackBerry phones. BlackBerry started with two-way pager device back in 1999 in Germany. Since 1999 BlackBerry became a name in the market that launched technologies after technologies in the mobile world. BlackBerry once ruled the mobile world and it had countless businesses in the market. BlackBerry was an industry standard and there were more than 85 million subscribers of BlackBerry until the end of 2013 worldwide. But soon iPhone was launched, which raised the appeal and brought in some interesting features in mobiles like web apps, touch screen and many more features. People loved these changes and welcomed this new technology. BlackBerry, once an epitome turned into the boring, staid and old-fashioned thing. So what went wrong with this Canadian firm which was once a leader in the mobile industry? Was it the launch of iPhone that drowned the giant multinational company which was standing proudly creating new records of sales with every new launch or there were more reasons behind the BlackBerry failure of BlackBerry.
We have listed few reasons for you to understand:
Delays in the launch:
There was a lot of delay in the launch of the BlackBerry 10 operating system and finally when it launched there was nothing much in it for BlackBerry customers. Most of the customers took interest in Apple and Android which were far more handy and classy with loads of features. BlackBerry phones are now counted as subpar and even the cheapest quality of Android is far better than latest BlackBerry products.
New handsets of blackberry are boring and have nothing to offer:
Despite all the efforts to bring back BlackBerry craze in the market and attract users, the company has failed. It has been jumping on with the same handset with small changes which hardly matters to the consumers. No one wants these handsets as there are plenty of options available for people with reasonable budgets. Even the basic Android smartphone with least features is far better than new and latest BlackBerry handsets.
BlackBerry App World sucks:
Blackberry app world is nothing much but a barren wasteland. Apple and Androids provide millions of apps that are trustworthy, catchy, interesting and moreover usable, while BlackBerry has nothing much to offer in regards to the App World. Probably BlackBerry should send its developers to Mars for some long vacation and hire some new techs to develop new apps that at least match the new world.
BlackBerry is in debts:
Delays in BlackBerry, launch and failed features have put the company in major debt. It hardly matters that company’s financial status was already drowning. These losses have made the products of the company subpar and soon they lost most of their customers. Blackberry that doesn’t seem to be reviving soon.
Lack of leadership in the company:
Failing products, financial loss, and outdated vision all this seems is happening because the company is lacking a leader with a vision and this is not changing anytime soon. This attitude of BlackBerry has put off their customers for a long time and they have simply switched to different and better options.
Forgotten case:
BlackBerry couldn’t match the market trend and it took it too long to revive and launch its new products. New technology took over the market and people simply forgot about BlackBerry. Blackberry users soon switched to better technology.
The main competitors of BlackBerry, Android and Apple are now leading the industry and keeping the consumer’s intact while the BlackBerry is struggling to compete not only with the technology but also with the losses it has suffered all these years. BlackBerry also saw improvements in sales and subscribers in recent years. But this seems like a long way for the company to gain back the trust and love of customers.
